HC issues notice to Jhabreda MLA on caste certificate issue
Taking up a public interest litigation challenging the caste certificates of Jhabreda MLA Deshraj Karnwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the high court of Uttarakhand has issued a notice to him. The matter is listed to be taken up for hearing next after two weeks.
According to the case details, Haridwar resident Vipin Tomar had filed the PIL in the high court demanding that the caste certificates of the Jhabreda MLA be checked.
The petitioner has claimed that Karnwal used invalid caste certificates to contest the Vidhan Sabha elections from the reserved constituency of Jhabreda.
The validity of his caste certificates should be checked, the petitioner has demanded.
After hearing the petition, the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Alok Kumar Verma issued a notice to Karnwal while listing the matter for hearing after a period of two weeks. It will be recalled that in the past, BJP MLA from Khanpur, Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ had also accused his Jhabreda counterpart of using invalid caste certificates to contest the election.
