HC directs SSP to take action against culprits making spurious medicines
Taking serious cognisance of the authorities not arresting the accused about three months after spurious medicines amounting to more than Rs 25 lakh were seized from the factory of the brother of a politician in Roorkee, the Uttarakhand high court has directed the Haridwar senior superintendent of police to take action against the culprits and submit a report in the court within two weeks. The case has been set for hearing next on June 30.
According to the case details, Haridwar resident Dushyant Kumar had filed a public interest litigation in the high court stating that on March 3 this year, a vigilance team had raided a factory owned by the brother of a political leader. The business at the factory was found to be a scam with spurious medicines amounting to about Rs 25 lakh being seized. The authorities had also seized considerable quantities of starch powder, talcum powder and calcium phosphate from the factory. The petitioner has stated that the spurious products found in the factory are dangerous for the kidney and gall bladder of the consumer. The police had lodged a case against the accused in the Bhagwanpur police station. However, months after the raid, the accused has not been arrested by the police. Hearing the petition, the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice RC Khulbe directed the Haridwar SSP to take action against the culprits and submit a report in the court within two weeks.
