Harish Rawat seeks compensation for liquor tragedy victims
Visits the Patharia Peer area of Dehradun on Saturday to meet the families of the victims of the recent illicit liquor tragedy
Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited the Patharia Peer area of Dehradun on Saturday where he met the families of the victims of the recent illicit liquor tragedy. He said that the State Government should provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to every family and job to one member of the family.
Sharing the grief with the family members of those who died in the tragedy, the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said that the time has come when the women should come out against the elements who are involved in the business of illicit liquor.
He said that such an illegal activity cannot thrive unless political patronage is provided to them. Rawat said that it is the duty of the State Government to share the pain of the families who have lost their earning members.
He said that it appears that the State Government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the families of victims a day before his visit as a damage control measure. Rawat, however, said that compensation of Rs 2 lakh is very less and the Government should provide a sum of Rs 10 lakh as compensation. He also took pot-shots on the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat for not caring to visit the families of the illicit liquor tragedy in an area which is located in heart of the Capital. The Kedarnath MLA, Manoj Rawat also accompanied the former CM on the occasion.
