Governor Baby Rani Maurya launched the initiative of developing at least one scheduled caste populated village into a model village in every district from the Jhajhra village in Dehradun on Wednesday. She also inaugurated the smart class at Jhajhra junior high school and building of village Panchayat constructed under national livelihood mission during the visit to the village. The governor had lunch with the members of women self help groups and also distributed smartphones to 35 children of the village through CSR. She appealed to all the MPs and MLAs to take the initiative to provide smartphones and tabs to poor children to facilitate online education.
Speaking on the occasion, Maurya said that all the six Anganwadi centres of the Jhajhra Panchayat would be developed as model Anganwadi centres. Pre-school kits were distributed to 38 children registered in these Anganwadi centres. She also directed that a book containing pictures of healthy daily routine should be included in these pre-school kits. Further, iron tablets were distributed to 44 pregnant women of the village while sanitary napkins and iron tablets were distributed among the girls. She directed that smart class studies should be undertaken only as extra help and that conventional study through books should continue. She asked to translate the smart class content into Hindi language to enable the children to understand it easily.
She said that smart class concept should be implemented for the children of junior classes as children learn very well through pictures. In addition to planting a sapling in the local school complex, the governor also inspected the colony constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the ANM centre there. Maurya also viewed the pond constructed under the livelihood project and lemongrass project of the women self help group. She instructed that fishery be promoted in the pond for creating employment opportunities.
The Sahaspur MLA Sahadev Singh Pundir, secretary to the governor, Brijesh Kumar Sant, district magistrate Ashish Kumar Srivastava, additional secretary Ramvilas Yadav, chief development officer Nitika Khandelwal and other officials were also present on the occasion.
