The Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have extended their greetings to all women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. In her message on the eve of the occasion, the Governor said that the day is an opportunity for women and girls to comprehend and imbibe their dreams and strength. She said that International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to the empowerment and rights of women. Gender equality and financial independence are vital for the empowerment of women. Social awareness will have to be encourage in order to resolve gender disparities.
There are still many people who differentiate between a girl and a boy. Changing this mentality is the need of the time. In order to develop a gender equal society, it is also essential dwell on various issues like community safety, equal opportunities for education, protection from domestic violence and better atmosphere for women in working places, said the governor.
She said that it is also important for women to become economically strong and self-reliant. Women will also have to make efforts towards achieving such self-reliance. Women have a major role in the all-round development of Uttarakhand state. Women self help groups are doing commendable work in tourism based enterprises, agriculture, horticulture, small and cottage industries in the state. Such success stories need to be spread so that more women are inspired to follow such positive examples, said Maurya.
In his message on the occasion, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that it is vital for women to be empowered also for the all-round development of society and state. For facilitating women empowerment in Uttarakhand, interest-free loan of up to Rs 5,00,000 is being provided to women self help groups. All schemes aimed at development of rural economy have been drafted keeping the women in mind.
