A vigilance team has arrested Gadarpur Patwari Sushil Juneja on Saturday on charge of taking a bribe of Rs 10, 000 from a person at his office in Tehsil Gadarpur in Udham Singh Nagar district. Juneja had allegedly sought the bribe from the person against preparing papers for receiving compensation for his eroded land. In his written complaint lodged with the vigilance Haldwani sector on January 19, Mohammad Asif Ansari, resident of Gadarpur, stated that Juneja had told him that he would not get compensation against his eroded land until the required papers were made ready. As per the complainant, Juneja had demanded Rs 25,000 for measuring land and completing other formalities to release the fund. Through persuasion, the amount had been finally reduced to Rs 10,000, the complainant said, adding that he had agreed to pay the bribe at his office on January 20. The complainant had meanwhile approached SP, Haldwnai sector vigilance and registered a compliant over the same. Acting on the complaint, a team was formed. Two independent witnesses were also included in it. The vigilance team members drafted a plan to trap Patwari Juneja.
He was caught red- handed while taking Rs 10, 000 as bribe from the complainant on Saturday in the presence of two independent witnesses.
A case under appropriate sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was subsequently registered against the accused in Dehradun sector vigilance. Director vigilance Ram Singh Meena announced reward of Rs 10, 000 to the team members for arresting the accused red- handed.
