A junior assistant of the transport department was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 by a team of the vigilance department of Uttarakhand police on Saturday. He was demanding the money for clearing the online application of an individual for setting up a Pollution Testing Centre.
The accused, Vipin Kumar, a native of Udham Singh Nagar, who is presently residing in Dehradun was booked under various acts after he was caught by the vigilance team.
On receipt of a complaint, the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance department constituted a team to apprehend the accused. On Saturday afternoon, the team laid a trap around the office of the Additional Transport Commissioner in Dehradun where Kumar was caught while accepting the bribe.
The complainant was also present at the spot. He had approached the SP on Friday complaining about the demand of bribe for getting things clear for his application for opening a pollution check centre.
Kumar asked for bribe when the complainant reached his office to get clearance for his centre.
He asked the complainant to pay Rs 15,000 as a bribe. When the complainant pleaded that his financial condition was weak, Kumar decreased the amount to Rs 10,000.
The complainant reached out to the vigilance team which found the accusation to be true and went ahead with the trap and arrested the accused.
