The Uttarakhand Education Department declares DAV Inter College, Karnpur as Atal Adarsh Vidyalay after the chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi recommended to the school education department in August to consider the school as a model for Atal Adarsh Vidyalay. In July, the principal of the said school, AK Srivastava wrote to Negi stating that in the Covid-19 pandemic, several parents of private schools are incapable of depositing fees or providing quality education to their children due to financial constraints. He said that DAV Inter College is over 115 years old and has sufficient means to provide quality education in English, so those parents who want to provide quality education to their children as per the fees set by the government can admit their children in the school. As per the principal, the school has 43 well qualified teachers for all the subjects and sufficient classrooms besides a huge library and science laboratories. Besides this, Negi informed that the school will also provide free admission to the girl students who do not get 25 per cent reservation after class six under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act in private schools. Stating that such schools that come forward to help students in such crisis should be supported by the education department, Negi wrote to the department to consider the said school as a model for Atal Adarsh Vidyalay which the State Government is planning to set up in every block as it already meets the standards. Considering the letter, secretary of the school education department, R Meenakshi Sundaram declared the DAV school not just as a model but an Atal Adarsh Vidyalay while adding that the department will provide support to the school too, as informed by Negi.
