Governor presides over Malaviya Jayanti at Rishikul
Governor Baby Rani Maurya urged the people to follow the path shown by the great men while speaking at Mahamana Jayanti organised at Rishikul Ayurvedic College on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of Madan Mohan Malaviya.
The students presented cultural programmes with patriotic flavour.
Sunil Kumar Batra and Satish Chand Jain of Haridwar Nagrik Manch presented Tulsi sapling to the Governor on the occasion of Tulsi Diwas which is observed the same day.
Governor said that Malaviya had been known as an educationist, editor, social reformer, lawyer, great patriot and social reformer. She added that Malaviya founded the Banaras Hindu University.
He believed that education had an important role in the all-round development of life. He had also emphasised on intellectual development as well as character formation, recalled the governor.
Later, the Governor visited Shankaracharya Rajra jeshwarashram at Kankhal. She is understood to have discussed means to strengthen the financial condition of the state.
The Shankaracharya is learnt to have asked her to pave way for the formation of a separate ministry for enhancing tourism in the state.
The ascetic is of the firm view that formation of a separate ministry which caters to the interests of tourism exclusively would go a long way in boosting the economy of the state which is known as tourism state.
He is understood to have told the Governor that the focus should be trained on spiritual tourism rather than on the conventional tourism, the State being exalted as Devbhumi, the abode of Gods.

Malaviya plays important role in Independence movement: CM
Pundit Madan Mohan Malaviya was the only person in India who was honoured with the title of ‘Mahamana’, said chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
He was speaking at a function organised on Malaviya’s birth anniversary here on Tuesday.
He said that with attempts through journalism, advocacy and social change Malaviya inspired the youth to strive for the independence of the nation. His aim behind establishing the Banaras Hindu University was to educate the youth and prepare them for service of the nation. He made an important contribution to the national freedom struggle through his sacrifices and penance, said Rawat.
