In their message on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have stressed on the need for environmental protection. The Governor exhorted people of the State to desist from using polythene and generating plastic-based waste.
She also stressed that tree plantation and water conservation are of vital importance. The governor will also be planting a tree sapling at the Raj Bhawan premises in Nainital on Wednesday. She exhorted the people to not let their attachment with nature be lessened and to make all possible efforts for conservation of the environment.
Each resident of Uttarakhand has to ensure that the rich forests and wildlife of the state are protected and secure, she said.
In his message for the occasion, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat requested the people to make active contribution to environmental conservation.He reiterated the State government’s commitment to have a polythene-free Uttarakhand, adding that this will be possible only with the cooperation of the public. Rawat stressed that the State Government is committed to conservation of the ecological resources.
Along with the efforts of the government, the works of public, public representatives and voluntary organisations are also important. In addition to plantation of trees, full effort for cleaning of rivers and water sources is also important, said that Chief Minister.
