Congress MLA from Manglaur, Qazi Nizamuddin cornered the government on preparation of the Kumbh Mela 2021. He claimed that out of Rs 250 crore allotted for Kumbh Mela preparations for the year 2019-20 only Rs 70 crore has been spent so far which shows lack of seriousness on Kumbh. “The month of March has started and only Rs 60-70 crore have been spent so far. The chief minister has himself tweeted that about 15 crore pilgrims would visit Haridwar for Kumbh Mela. The government should tell as to when actual work on ground would commence for the Kumbh,’’ he said. Asking the government to come out of meeting mode on an important event like Kumbh, the Congress member sought to know the steps taken by the government on the solid waste management as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) during Kumbh Mela. In his response, the Urban Development minister Madan Kaushik said that the state government has received the report of the project management consultant on solid waste management during the Kumbh. He added that the government would enter into an understanding with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for generation of bio gas from the waste during the Kumbh Mela. The minister assured that all measures would be taken as per the norms of NGT for disposal of solid waste management during the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.
