GDMC organises walk cum seminar on World Cancer Day
A seminar on symptoms and treatment of Cancer was hosted at Government Doon Medical College ( GDMC) to mark the ‘ World Cancer Day’ on Monday.
In the seminar, the associate professor of GDMC, Dr Abhay Kumar dwelt on the latest tools of preventing Cancer, its diagnosis and the treatment protocols of the dreaded disease.
The head of department of Gynaecology, Dr Chitra Joshi spoke of the Gynaecological malignancies and stressed on the need of HPV vaccine before marriage is held to prevent chances of Cervical Cancer.
The associate professor and Oncologist, Dr Navneet Jain stressed on lifestyle modification to prevent around one- third of Cancer cases.
Later, participating in the seminar, the principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana explained the importance of healthy lifestyle in reducing the chances of the disease.
He said that separate registration of Cancer cases would be done at the GDMC to assess the incidence of different types of Cancers in Uttarakhand.
The medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta said that such activities would help to enhance the early diagnosis and prevention of Cancer in the society.
Earlier in the day, the students and faculty members of GDMC organised a
‘Cancer Awareness Walk’ from Gandhi Park to Doon Hospital. The principal Dr Ashutosh Sayana, 300 MBBS students , 50 faculty members and the nursing staff participated in the awareness walk.
