Spurt in the contagion of the Covid-19 in Dehradun district has made the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital overflowing with the patients. The hospital authorities are now admitting only symptomatic patients with co morbidity. The hospital which at present is functioning as a dedicated Covid hospital has a capacity to admit 240 Covid-19 patients. At present more than 200 patients are admitted in the hospital and the authorities are preparing to increase the capacity of the hospital to 450. The principal of the GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana told The Pioneer that the hospital has 35 ICU beds where critical patients are admitted while 25 beds are reserved for less critical patients. On the complaints of laxity in treatment of Covid-19 patients, Sayana said that doctors and other staff members are working dedicatedly under extreme circumstances. The Principal claimed that he and other senior officials of the hospital make regular inspections of the hospital. On the complaints about poor quality food being served to the patients, the Principal said that the agency responsible for cooking and serving the food has been issued warning. He added that constant check is being done to ensure that patients don’t face any problem during the period of their hospitalisation.
A total of 3302 patients have so far been reported in Dehradun district. Here samples of 2361 patients are lying untested in different labs. The district administration has declared 12 areas as containment zones to prevent the spread of the disease.
