Ganga Sabha demands action against agency in wall collapse
The wall which had collapsed at Har ki Paidi on Monday night had fallen due to unrestrained excavation for underground works. The three member committee gave this information to the district magistrate in its report late on Wednesday. Earlier, many were averring that the wall had fallen after being struck by lightning. Now, the Ganga Sabha is seeking action against the agency responsible for the excavations that led to the collapse.
Traders have already raised objections to the ongoing uncontrolled excavations for underground power lines and gas pipe line in Haridwar. The traders allege that the executing agency is carrying out the excavation in an unplanned manner which is posing risk to various structures including homes and hotels. The holes are being dug and left uncovered. Rainwater is filling such holes and seeping through to the foundations of various structures as happened in the case of the wall which collapsed late on Monday night.
District magistrate C Ravishankar said that officials of PWD, irrigation, district mining and geologists were included in the team. The team’s report does not mention lightning. During investigation, the team found that the wall had collapsed due to water leakage. The DM said that proper arrangements will be made to drain the water at the site concerned in the future.
After the committee’s report, Ganga Sabha members submitted an application to Senior Superintendent of Police, Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S and the DM demanding FIR against the company responsible for digging up roads for the underground cable project. Ganga Sabha secretary Tanmay Vashishtha as the report clearly states that the wall collapsed due to digging nearby, strict action should be taken against the agency responsible.
