Dehradun police arrested four accused with one absconding and rescued a resident of Hyderabad, who was allegedly kidnapped by them. The victim MMA Sheikh was allegedly held for 10 days by the accused. The victim said that the accused fraudulently took Rs 3.85 lakh from him under the pretext of mango export. However, the accused said that Sheikh had duped them of about Rs seven lakh under the pretext of getting them a job abroad.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti said, “On July 8, a team from Mumbai police told us about this case. They had filed a zero FIR on the complaint of victim’s son in Mumbai. We got the information that the victim landed here on June 30 and had been missing since then. He was found in a mango grove tied to a charpoy inside a tent and four were arrested. We are attempting to arrest the fifth one.”
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Shamli residents Shoaib and Shehbaz, Saharanpur residents Danish and Rahis. The fifth accused Sonu is absconding.
When asked why they kidnapped him the accused Shoaib said, “We did not kidnap him, he was there on his own will. He took nearly Rs seven lakh from me saying that he had contacts to get me a job in Qatar. I am under Rs 5.5 lakh debt because of this; we were only trying to get our money back. We came in contact with him through a WhatsApp group.”
The victim Sheikh said, “They took Rs 26,000 in advance from me under the pretext of mango export. They booked a ticket for me. After I landed they also took Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from me asked to transfer Rs 1.9 lakh into their bank account. They kept asking for more money from my family.”
It is also important to mention here that the victim here was in contact with his family and was had the identification and other cards with him.
