Dehradun district magistrate S A Murugesan while chairing a meeting of Pre Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) district advisory committee members on Friday said that it was a matter of regret that a team comprising enforcing officials of PCPNDT Act from Ambala district Haryana had played the main role in apprehending the owner of the diagnostic centre run Dr Pramod Tyagi while doing ultra sound of a decoy customer sent by the PCPNDT team of health department of Ambala on January 11. He said that the district health authorities and police of Dehradun were unaware of the activity of Dr Tyagi going on in a busy market area of the city.
DM directed the members to strengthen information system at the ground level. Special vigil should be laid along the borders of Himachal Pradesh and other adjoining states, he said, adding that the committee has decided to seize the premises of the centre and to cancel its registration. Notably, based on its input, a team of the health department based in Ambala had raided Tyagi Diagnostic Centre at Araghar on January 11 and busted a gang involved in sex determination of unborn babies.
It has been reported that Dr Tyagi was part of a group which used to operate from Haryana from where the brokers used to strike deal with couples eager to know the sex of their baby in womb.
Dr Tyagi was using two unregistered machines to perform pre -natal sex determination.
DM directed the officials concerned to remain vigilant about activities of such diagnostic centres engaged in such crimes.
