Based on Police report, Haridwar DM, Deependra Kumar Chaudhary revoked three firearm licenses ( two pistols and one Rifle) issued to the Khanpur MLA
After suspension and notice of expulsion from BJP, the problems of the controversial MLA from Khanpur in Haridwar district Pranav Singh Champion are compounding further. Amid protest and wide spread condemnation of his action of flaunting firearms and abusing Uttarakhand in a video that has gone viral, the district administration of Haridwar has revoked three licences of firearms belonging to the beleaguered MLA. Apart from revoking the licences on Saturday, the district magistrate of Haridwar, Deependra Kumar Chaudhary also slapped a notice to Champion on the issue. The police would now take custody of these weapon, Champion likes to flaunt.
After the video of Champion became viral, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Haridwar was directed by the state administration to check violation of norms of the weapon licences issued to Champion and his family.
The DM of Haridwar, Deependra Kumar Chaudhary told The Pioneer that the three firearm licenses ( two pistols and one Rifle) issued to Champion were revoked by him on Saturday after observing the reports submitted by the SSP of Haridwar and the in-charge of the Manglaur police station. He said as per the legal procedure, a notice has also been served to Champion. The MLA is required to submit a reply on the notice within 15 days.
The action of revoking firearm licences issued to Champion occurred amidst the request of the MLA to Uttarakhand police to provide him security. In his request, Champion had said that he is receiving threats on his facebook after the video featuring him went viral.
The Khanpur MLA who has a knack of kicking up controversies is in eye of storm ever since a video featuring him went viral on social media platforms. In the video, the MLA is seen dancing to the tunes to a popular song of a Hindi movie while carrying firearms in his hands and mouth. Looking inebriated Champion prodded by his supporters is seen using expletives against Uttarakhand. However the MLA had maintained that said video has been doctored to defame him.
