The Uttarakhand Congress has termed the decision of Uttarakhand government in which it had asked the private schools to only charge tuition fee from the parents as eyewash. The spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Mahra Dassauni said on Saturday that the decision is deplorable since it is the tuition fee which constitutes the major chunk of school fees. “If one looks at the fee structure of the private schools then it becomes clear that almost 80 percent of the total fee charged is the tuition fee. It appears the education minister is unaware about the fee structure of the private schools which is unfortunate,’’ she said. The Congress leader said that the decision of the government would provide no succour to the parents reeling under financial crisis triggered by the lockdown.
After an intense pressure from the political parties and parents association to rein in private schools that are pressurising the parents to deposit fees, the Uttarakhand government on Friday directed the private schools to charge only tuition fee for the period of lockdown from the parents. The education minister, Arvind Pandey also warned that strict action would be taken against the schools that would exert pressure on the parents to charge additional fees in excess of the tuition fees.
