Enforce ‘Persons with Disabilities Act- 2016’ – Yashpal Arya
The minster directs that identity cards of all persons with disabilities should be prepared
The transport, minorities and social welfare Minister Yashpal Arya has said specially abled persons should be empowered so that they are brought in national mainstream and the Persons with disabilities act- 2016 should enforced properly in the state. The minister chaired the first meeting of the state disabled persons advisory board at Vidhan Sabha auditorium here on Friday. He said that ramps, lifts and special rooms would be constructed in the government offices of the state with a financial aid of Rs 1.65 Crore provided by the union government. In the meeting, the minister directed the officials of health, labour, education and sports departments to work in a coordinated manner for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
He said that disability should now be viewed in a broader perspective and pointed out that in the Act of 2016; the numbers of categories of disability have been increased from seven to 21. The minister directed the officers of the department that identity cards of all persons with disabilities should be prepared and suggested that that provision of issuing disability certificate in the primary health centres should be made. Arya said that platform for providing training and employment opportunities to the specially abled should be made available.
The meeting was attended by additional secretary Ramvilas Yadav, additional secretary child development Jharna Kamthan, additional secretary labour Umesh Narayan Pandey and others.
Monthly pensions to beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of the pensions provided by the social welfare department would now get their pensions on a monthly basis now. At present the pensions are disbursed at the end of three months. An order regarding this was given by the Social welfare minister while reviewing the pension schemes of the social welfare department on the day. In the meeting the minister was told that out of 716877 beneficiaries of old age, widow, disability, farmer and deserted women, the department has disbursed pensions to 632508 beneficiaries so far.
Minister furious on ignorant officers
Infuriated by failure of the officials to provide number of the persons with disabilities, the Social welfare minister Yashpal Arya gave a severe dressing down to them in the meeting. It is learnt that the minister asked the revised number of persons with disabilities in the wake of new criteria and increase in number of categories of such persons but the ignorant officials failed to respond to the query. An angry minister then directed that fresh survey of such people should be undertaken.
