EID-UL-FITR CELEBRATED WITH PRAYER, FERVOUR & COLOURS
Sunday, 17 June 2018 | PNS | Dehradun–
Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with the traditional fervour and devotion across the State, including Dehradun, on Saturday when the Muslim community across age groups congregated at the masjids to offer prayers. The rain that lashed Dehradun on early morning, bringing down the mercury by some notches, added to the festive spirit.
The Jama Masjid at Paltan Bazar in the city saw a large gathering of people since the morning. Many of the children and the youngsters who came to offer prayer were found attired in new dress. Some other masjids located in the city witnessed the same scene of the festivity with the people embracing one another and exchanging greeting. The children looked particularly happy as they said they have received Idi (money) from their elders. The markets in the city were found crowded since Friday as the people in a large number thronged them for the festival shopping. The sweet shops did brisk business too.
Talking with The Pioneer, Mohammed Ahmed Kasami who presides over prayer at Jama Masjid in Paltan Bazar said that the spirit of the festival is unity and brotherhood with all, including those who follow other religions. “This also marks empathy with the poor, the unprivileged. We provide them with something according to our capacity to enable them to enjoy the festival like others.
This occasion is meant to pray and purify ourselves of the baser elements like hatred with the grace of the God. This is the day too to pledge to be humble,” he added.
