Drivers-helpers of all commercial vehicles to be verified
Taking the recent incident of brutal gang rape and murder of a lady veterinarian in Hyderabad allegedly by some non-verified drivers and helpers into account, the Traffic director (DIG) Kewal Khurana has passed orders to all districts to verify all drivers and helpers operating commercial vehicles whether they are from Uttarakhand or from any other state. This step is being taken as a precautionary measure for safety from not only heinous crimes, but petty crimes as well.
As per the information provided by the state traffic directorate, DIG Khurana in his order letter to the districts said that the operation of commercial vehicles in each district has been increasing exponentially. The number of commercial vehicles entering from outside the state has also been increasing. People from both Uttarakhand and outside the state are working as drivers or helpers in these vehicles. He said that in the Hyderabad incident the involvement of commercial vehicle drivers and helpers has come to light and in various other crimes across the country the involvement of commercial vehicle drivers and helpers has been noticed.
So, in order to make sure that such an incident does not get repeated he has ordered all districts to conduct a thorough verification of all drivers and helpers of commercial vehicles. He emphasised that this shall be done with decent behaviour and review meetings for the same should be conducted on district level.
