State additional director general of police (law and order) Ashok Kumar informed on Friday that a two- day drive against installation of illegal name plates, departmental post plates and stickers on the private vehicles in various districts of the State was conducted on May 1 and 2. He further said that in course of the drive, such unauthorised plates were removed from as many as 506 private vehicles by the police officers of the districts. Earlier, the district police brass had formed teams to conduct such drives.
It is learnt from police sources that the owners of 608 vehicles were slapped with penalties for violation of the traffic rules in course of the two-day drive. Besides, five vehicles were impounded out of which four were from Haridwar and one from Pithoragarh districts.
According to a department official, illegal name plates, sticker plates and post plates had been removed from 299 two- wheelers and 315 four wheelers across the State. Such illegal boards and sticker plate had been removed from 71 bikes and 34 cars in Uttarkashi while 47 bikes and 105 cars in Tehri, four cars in Chamoli, 14 cars in Champawat, nine bikes and five cars in Pithoragarh, 64 bikes and 12 cars in Bageshwar, 55 bikes and 24 cars in Udham Singh Nagar, 12 bikes and 12 cars in Nainital, 20 bikes and 53 cars in Haridwra, two bikes and 18 cars in Dehradun, two bikes and four cars in Rudraprayag, 12 bikes and 22 cars in Pauri and five bikes and six cars in Almora, a senior police officer informed.
