That the consumers based in Haridwar are alert and they are determined to exercise their right for having good services from the health authorities when need arises has been proved by the recent order passed by the district consumer forum.
The district consumer forum has said in its order that Dr N K Agarwal and radiologist Dr Ravinder Goyal have been found on the wrong side of service to the consumers. As a compensation for the damage done to the patients, the doctors have been asked to pay the amount within a period of one month.
A complainant Amar Singh, resident of Kadach Mohalla, Jwalapur had lodged a complaint with the district consumer forum against a private hospital, City Hospital (Ranipur Modh) based doctor Dr N K Agarwal and radiologist Dr Ravindra Goyal of Dhanvantari Ultrasound and X-ray Centre Ranipur Modh and National Insurance Company Limited. In the complaint thus lodged, Amar Singh stated that on October 24, 2012, he had sought medical advice from Dr Agarwal following stomach pain. The complaint ran that after investigation, Dr Agarwal had diagnosed him with Appendix pain and the radiologist had also supported his diagnosis. Singh further said in his complaint that he had deposited Rs 25,000 for surgery to Dr Agarwal. But thereafter when he had gone to a Dehradun-based private hospital and saw Dr Sanjay Saxena the latter had dismissed the earlier diagnosis and said that he not been afflicted with appendicitis. He had diagnosed the problem as coming out of a minor stomach infection. The investigation reports there too had stated things as normal.
It was followed by the patient lodging a complaint against the doctor duo and demanded compensation. The complainant said that the duo had landed him under mental and physical stress. He had further written in the complaint that the private hospital and the radiologist had been insured with National Insurance Company Limited. But the insurance company had refused to give either any compensation or a satisfactory response, Singh said and added that despite his running from pillar to post, he had not been given back his medical claim expenses, which had made him to slap a notice on them through his lawyer. Finally, he had approached the district consumer forum for justice.
Quizzed over the matter, the radiologist Goyal said that there had been no carelessness on their part and the report given by them had been right. “We would also make an appeal in the case,” he added.
