Dehradun District Magistrate SA Murugesan took stock of the preparations for Republic Day celebrations with the district officers at the Collectorate on Wednesday. The main function of Republic Day celebration in the state would be held at Parade Ground where Governor K K Paul would hoist the national flag.
DM strictly directed the district officers and various department officers to complete their assigned works at the earliest. He said that the officers of all the departments would drive special cleanliness drive from January 14 to January 30. Municipal Corporation officers have been directed to carry out cleanliness drive at the main crossings and public places, he said, adding MDDA and Municipal Corporation officers have been directed to illuminate important places like the martyrs’ memorial and Gandhi Park from 6 pm to 11 pm on January 25 and January 26.
Udhog, tourism, UREDA, education, agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, swajal and child development departments among others would display their tableau on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations. Besides, the cultural department officer has been directed to make an arrangement of cultural dals, display of tableau and organise Kavi Sammelan on Republic Day eve while the chief education officer has been directed to ensure that prabhat pheri is taken out at all the schools. Students of some schools would jointly organise prahat pheri up to Gandhi park and some other important places in the city. At the same time, DM asked for steps to stop the use of plastic-made national flags during the celebration. Crime control committee would distribute fruits among inmates in Suddhowala jail on Republic Day.
Others present at the meeting were SSP Nivedita Kukreti, chief development officer GS Rawat, additional DM Beer Singh Budiyal and ADM Arvind Pandey.
