Landslides and other factors resulting from rain have continued to cause disruption across the state with Pithoragarh and Chamoli being the most affected districts. According to the information provided by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least 135 roads were reported blocked in different parts of the state. Four border roads and 26 rural motor roads are blocked in Pithoragarh district. A number of culverts and approach routes to bridges are also damaged in the district. In the Chamoli district, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway number 58 is blocked by debris about 500 metres ahead of Langasu. The Gopeshwar-Mandal-Chopta state highway and 35 rural motor roads are also blocked in the district. While 14 rural motor roads are blocked in Dehradun district, nine are blocked in Pauri district. In Tehri district, the Rishikesh-Srinagar stretch of NH 58 is blocked by debris at Totaghati and Teendhara. The Raipur-Kumalda-Kaddukhal state highway and 15 rural motor roads are also blocked in the district. One state highway, one main district road and five rural motor roads are blocked in Nainital district while six rural motor roads are blocked in Champawat district. One state highway and two rural roads are blocked in Almora district while 13 rural motor roads are blocked in Bageshwar district. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the roads for traffic.
More heavy rain in store today
The State meteorological centre has issued a warning regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall with intense spells at a few places in three districts on Thursday. Similar weather is forecast at isolated places in six districts.
According to the meteorological centre, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is likely to occur at most places in all districts of the state today. However, heavy to very heavy rainfall with intense spells is likely to occur at a few places in Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Bageshwar districts. Further, heavy to very heavy rainfall with intense spells is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts. In Dehradun, the weather is forecast to be partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers.
