Develop 2 blocks each in mountain districts as models of Pirul power: CM
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has stressed on the need for special focus on linking self help groups (SHGs) and NGOs with efforts to generate electricity using Pirul (dry pine needles). Two blocks with more Pirul should be identified in each mountainous district and work should be started to develop these as model blocks. Directing the officials to encourage renewable energy, the CM also directed that schemes of Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) should be publicised through hoardings at the block headquarter. The CM issued these instructions while reviewing schemes of the UREDA here on Monday.
Rawat said that there is considerable scope for employment in generation of electricity using Pirul. Women SHGs should be made more active and the divisional forest officer should be made the district level nodal officer for this. Stating that marketing of items being made by SHGs should be facilitated, he said that local products should be encouraged in government offices on festivals and special occasions. The work plan for the CM solar self employment scheme should also be prepared soon, he added.
Energy secretary Radhika Jha informed that 272 MW solar power works have been established. In the sphere of biomass and co-generation, 131 MW works have been completed while 39 MW works are in progress. Waste to energy policy has been formed for electricity generation from municipal waste and the Urban Development department is conducting the tender process for this.
UREDA director Alok Shekhar Tiwari informed that 1060 kilowatt capacity projects were allocated to 36 developers under the Pirul policy-2018 for power generation. Principal secretary Anand Bardhan, UPCL MD Neeraj Khairwal and other officials were also present in the meeting.
