Dengue continues to surge, 12 new cases reported
On Tuesday 12 new cases of the dreaded vector borne disease were reported by the district health authorities.
With these cases, the number of dengue affected patients in Dehradun has jumped to 699. Out of these patients 673 patients are residents of Dehradun while 26 belong to other districts.
The District Vector Borne Diseases Officer, Subhash Joshi said that 270 samples of patients were tested for Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) on the day and out of them 12 samples were found positive.
He claimed that teams of health department and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) are visiting the affected areas and activities like fogging and spread of insecticides are being undertaken apart from spreading awareness on preventive measures to be adopted for the disease.
Cong demands additional staff in GDMC hosp in wake of dengue outbreak
A delegation of Congress party leaders met the Principal of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dr Ashutosh Sayana at his office on Tuesday. The delegation demanded that in wake of dengue outbreak in the city more staff should be deployed in the GDMC hospital. The delegation headed by the Mahanagar President, Lal Chand Sharma handed over a memorandum to Dr Sayana on the ocassion.
The Congress party leaders said that the numbers of patients of dengue are continuing to increase in GDMC hospital but the hospital lacks resources to deal with surge of patients. They claimed that platelets are not available in the blood bank and the emergency wing of the hospital is being managed by only one doctor. The Congress leaders expressed resentment on recent increase in user charges in the hospitals. Sharma demanded that more staff should be deployed in the hospital and proper arrangement for availability of platelets should be made.
The Congress leaders also expressed concern on lack of sanitation in the mortuary of the hospital and non-functioning of CT scan machine from last six months.
