Worst ever ranking in recent years
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs declared the Swachh Survekshan Report 2019. According to the report, Gauchar in Chamoli district has been ranked as the cleanest Ganga town. Dehradun ranked 384th in the category of the cleanest city among 425 cities with a population of more than one lakh. The city scored 1343 marks out of 5,000.
Notably, the Swachh Survekshan Report is a survey of the Urban Local bodies of the country under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship programme of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The cities are ranked by four categories-Public Participation, Direct Inspection, Improvement in services and Third Party Certification that is based upon the star ratings.
Over the past two years, Dehradun has been placed in the lowest rank this year. In 2017, it achieved 316th position and in 2018 it secured 259th position. However, this year the position of the city rolled down to 384th.
Among other cities of the state, Roorkee ranked 281 in the list. Last year the city clinched 158th position. Kashipur ranked 308th this year while last year the city finished 310th.
Haldwani ranked as the 350th cleanliest city while last year it scored 251st position. Haridwar ranked 376th in the list while last year the city scored the 205th position. Rudrapur this year ranked 403rd while last year the city scored 281st .
Under the category of the cleanest cantonment board, Almora figured as the 11 best cantonment boards in India this year. Last year, however, the board captured the second position.
Ranikhet received 13th position of being the best cantonment board in the country. Last year the board finished third.
Dehradun cantonment board received 19th position this year while last year the board was placed as the 16th.
