Dehradun jumps 260 slots to reach 124 in Swachchh Survekshan 2020
Dehradun jumped 260 positions to reach 124th position in the Swachchh Survekshan 2020, considerably improving its ranking from the 384th position achieved in the previous survey. Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey met the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat after the results of the national survey were released on Thursday. The CM congratulated the duo while also stressed on the need for further improvement in the field of sanitation.
Dehradun has performed better than the five other municipal corporations in Uttarakhand as it ranked first as a cleanest city in State in compare to the fifth position last year. According to the Dehradun mayor the employees of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) including the municipal commissioner, health officers, supervisors and sanitation workers worked very hard to improve the sanitation conditions in the city and it has been reflected in the results of Swachchh Survekshan too. Further, the municipal commissioner informed that Dehradun has climbed from 384th position to 124th this year and there is probably no city in the country that jumped rankings at such a rate this year. “Of course, we will continue to work harder to improve our position. The MCD will try to bring Dehradun in the first 50 rankings of the next cleanliness survey,” stated Pandey. He said that Dehradun achieved the status of ODF (open defecation free) double plus earlier this year which has also helped in improving the position of the city in the survey. Pandey said that the participation of the public was also important as about 82,000 people from Dehradun provided their feedback on the Swacchata app. He added that last year, the city scored only 1,343 marks out of 5,000 but this year, it scored 3,059.31 marks out of 6,000.
