Gangotri to close on Oct 28, Yamunotri & Kedarnath on Oct 29, Badrinath on Nov 17
The dates for closure of the Char Dham shrines were arrived at and announced on the occasion of Vijaydashmi on Tuesday. The portals of Gangotri will be closed to the public on October 28. On the next day-October 29, the portals of Yamunotri and Kedarnath will be closed for the winters. The portals of the Badrinath shrine will be closed to the public for the winters on November 17. Apart from the Char Dham shrines, the Madhyamaheshwar shrine will be closed to the public on November 21, Tungnath shrine on November 6, Rudranath on October 18 and Hemkund Sahib on October 10.
A ceremony was held in Badrinath on the occasion of Vijaydashmi. After the priests consulted the Panchang (traditional Hindu calendar) and made necessary calculations, it was announced that the portals of Badrinath shrine will be closed for the winters on November 17 at 5:13 PM.
The date was announced by the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) chairman Mohan Prasad Thapliyal.
It was also decided that Uddhav and Kuber along with the seat of Adi Shankaracharya will depart for Pandukeshwar on November 18.
The ritual procedure for closure of Badrinath shrine for the winters will begin on November 13 with ceremonial worship of lord Ganesha and closure of the portals of his shrine in the evening.
The next day will see Adikedareshwar Pooja and closure of his portals. From the evening of November 15, the recitation of Vedic compositions will be stopped. The worship of goddess Mahalakshmi will be done on November 16 and she will be invited to the sanctum sanctorum. On November 17, the lord Badrinath will be adorned ceremoniously in the morning and later after installation of goddess Mahalakshmi in the sanctum sanctorum, the portals of the shrine will be closed for the six months of winter at 5:13 in the evening. On November 18, Uddhav, Kuber and the seat of Adi Shankaracharya will depart for Pandukeshwar. After spending the night at Yogdhyan Badri at Pandukeshwar, the seat of Adi Shankaracharya will be taken to its winter abode of Narsinh temple in Joshimath on the next day.
