81 new patients reported; toll at 2023
The number of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) patients in Uttarakhand shot past 2000 figure mark on Wednesday with the state health department reporting 81 new cases of the disease on the day. The Covid-19 toll in the state now stands at 2023. On Wednesday, an 18 year old male died at Sushila Tiwari hospital Haldwani. This Covid-19 positive patient had a travel history from Delhi and was referred from the district hospital of Bageshwar.
The health department reported 35 new cases of the disease on Wednesday from Dehradun while 14 new patients were detected from Almora district. Similarly nine and eight patients were reported from Tehri Garhwal and Nainital districts respectively. Three patients each were reported in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts. In Rudraprayag two patients were reported while one patient was found in Uttarkashi district.
The health authorities released 38 patients of the disease from different hospitals of the state on the day which increased the tally of recovered patients to 1254. On the day 16 patients recovered in Pauri while 14 were discharged in Dehradun district. Three patients each were discharged from Chamoli and Haridwar districts while two patients were cured in Uttarkashi district.
The additional secretary, state health department, Yugal Kishore Pant said that reports of 613 samples were found negative for the disease on Wednesday. He added that reports of 4889 samples are still awaited by the department. On Wednesday, a total of 1493 samples were collected for COVID -19 testing. The authorities have so far taken swab samples of 49462 suspected patients for COVID-19 test. Out of the total samples taken, 4.67 percent samples have been found positive for the disease. The doubling rate of disease in the state now stands at 25.66 days while the recovery percent in the state is now at 61.96 percent. A total of 11175 persons are kept in institutional quarantine by the state health department.
The state now has 717 active patients of the disease. Dehradun with 200 active cases is maintaining its position at top of the table of Covid-19 positive active patients .Haridwar district is at second position with 141 active cases. With 119 active patients Nainital district is at third position. Tehri district now has 63 active cases and is at fourth position in the state. Pauri district has 40 active cases while Udham Singh Nagar has 34 active cases. Pithoragarh district now has 33 active cases of Covid-19. Rudraprayag and Almora have 25 active cases each and Uttarkashi has 18 active patients now. Bageshwar district now has nine active cases while Chamoli has seven active cases of the disease. Champawat with three active cases is at the bottom of the table of active cases in the state.
The state has declared 86 areas as containment zones to check the spread of infection. Haridwar district has 51 containment zones while Dehradun district has 21 containment zones. The district administration has made ten containment zones in Tehri. Pauri and Udham Singh Nagar have two containment zones each.
The upswing continues
The contagion of Covid-19 took only 15 days to double the number of patients in Uttarakhand.
It is pertinent to mention here that the first case of the disease was reported in the state on March 15. It took two months and four days for the disease to cross the 100 figure mark (on May 19). The contagion took only 15 days for the disease to cross 1000 mark ( on June 2) and now in a time span of 15 days the disease has crossed 2000 figure mark which indicates the manner in which the disease is spreading in the state.
