Covid count moves beyond 20 k mark in U’khand

Tally now stands at 20398; eleven deaths, 571 fresh cases reported on Tuesday

The number of Covid-191 cases in Uttarakhand breached the 20000 figure mark on Tuesday with the state health department reporting 571 fresh cases of the disease. The state now has 20398 cases of the disease.

The speed of spread of contagion in the state could be gauged from the fact that while it took 149 days for the state to reach ten thousand cases mark; it took only 22 days to reach from 10 k to 20 k. It means that the second ten thousand cases occurred at a seven time faster rate than the first one.

Death of 11 patients was also reported on the day which took the death toll to 280 in the state. The authorities discharged 404 patients of the disease on Tuesday from different hospitals after their complete recovery from the disease. The state now has 14012 recovered patients of Covid-19 and the percentage recovery in the state is now at 68.69 percent. The disease is taking 23.49 days to double its numbers. A staggering 16964 swab samples are remaining untested in different laboratories of the state and out of total samples tested 5.40 percent have tested positive for the disease.

Five patients of Covid-19 were reported dead at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on Tuesday. Similarly four patients died at Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital, Haldwani on the day. One patient of the disease succumbed to death in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Mahant Indiresh hospital.

The authorities reported 169 new patients of Covid-19 in Dehradun while 106 cases of the disease surfaced in Nainital. In Udham Singh Nagar district 79 cases were reported while 63 patients in Haridwar, 42 in Tehri, 29 in Almora, 25 in Champawat, 22 in Pauri, 20 in Uttarkashi and seven patients were reported in Bageshwar district. Six patients were found in Rudraprayag while three surfaced in Chamoli district on the day.

Out of the 404 patients discharged on Tuesday, 170 are from Nainital, 92 from Haridwar, 80 from Dehradun, 17 Pauri, 15 Almora, 14 Uttarkashi, nine Rudraprayag, two Tehri and one from Chamoli district.

The state now has 6042 active patients of the disease with Udham Singh at the top spot in the table of active patients of Covid-19 with 1559 patients. Dehradun is in second position with 1284 active patients while with 1124 active cases Haridwar is in third spot. Nainital has 666 active patients of Covid-19 while Tehri has 360, Uttarkashi 229, Almora 190, Pauri 136, Pithoragarh 124, Chamoli 117, Champawat 112, Bageshwar 89 and Rudraprayag 52 active patients of Covid-19. 

The founder of Social Development for Communities Foundation (SDCF), Anoop Nautiyal said that the state crossed the 10 K mark on August 10 and at that time the Infection Rate (IR) was 4.91 percent. “Today, with 20 K Covid-19 cases, the IR is 5.4 percent even though we are testing far more than before. Usually with an increased number of tests the IR goes down. The government should study the spread of the disease,’’ he said.
