One patient each reported from Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts
After a pause of two days, the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has resurfaced in Uttarakhand with two new cases of the disease. The state health department has reported one patient of the disease from Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar district.
The patient reported from Haridwar is 31 year old and is a resident of Roorkee. He had gone to the AIIMS, Rishikesh for routine check up. His sample was taken on Thursday. In Udham Singh Nagar district, a 21 year old man, a resident of Bajpur was found positive on the day. It is learnt that he works in a restaurant in Delhi and had recently returned from there.
With them the state now has 63 cases of the disease out of which 45 have recovered from the disease and discharged from the hospitals. The state has witnessed only one death of a Corona affected patient, a female patient which the health department had claimed to have died from brain bleed. On a positive note, six patients of the disease, all from Dehradun district were discharged from the hospital after their complete recovery. Five of these patients were discharged from the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, Dehradun while one was discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh. From GDMC, the discharged patients included four followers of Tablighi Jamat. One infected nurse of AIIMS Rishikesh has also won the war against the disease and she was discharged from the hospital.
The additional secretary, state health department, Yugal Kishore Pant said that two new patients of the disease were reported on Friday. He said that the state now has 17 active cases of the disease. He said that 347 samples were tested for COVID-19 on the day and reports of 230 samples are still awaited by the department. The authorities have so far taken swab samples of 9116 suspected patients for COVID-19 test. Out of the total samples only 0.71 percent samples have been found positive for the disease.
On Friday, samples of 215 suspected patients were taken and sent to the lab for test. The authorities have so far provided psychiatric counselling to 25131 migrants labourers kept in different relief camps of the state. A total of 9562 persons are kept in home quarantine while 2687 are in facility quarantine. Interestingly the doubling rate in the state has increased to 96 days which is good sign. Out of the 17 active cases Dehradun district has seven active cases while Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar has five and three active cases respectively. Two active cases are in Nainital district.
Meanwhile Dehradun district which is the worst affected district with 34 positive cases till date is showing signs that the contagion has been contained here. The district now has only seven active cases most of whom are now concentrated in AIIMS Rishikesh. The district magistrate of Dehradun ordered Bhagat Singh Colony, Keshavpuri basti and Doiwala out of containment zone. The district now has five colonies which are under containment zone. One containment zone each is in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital district.
