Covid-19: U’khand reports highest single day spike
728 fresh cases, nine deaths reported on Thursday
In the highest single day jump ever since the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic started, the authorities reported a staggering 728 fresh cases of the disease on Thursday in Uttarakhand. The spike of Thursday is 177 more than the previous high of 551 cases reported on August 23.
The tally of the disease has now climbed to 17277 in the state. On a worrying note which is indicative of increased mortality from the disease, nine deaths were reported on Thursday. A total of 228 deaths have so far occurred due to the Covid-19 in the state. In an indication of the piling up of samples in different labs in the state, a total of 15975 samples are lying untested. The recovery percentage in the state has dropped to 68.15 percent and the infection rate has mounted to 5.31 percent in the state. Out of the nine deaths reported on Thursday, eight were reported from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and one from Sushila Tiwari government hospital.
The plain districts of the state continue to reel under the onslaught of the virus. On Thursday 175 fresh cases were reported in Haridwar, 150 in Dehradun, 122 in Nainital and 77 in Udham Singh Nagar. Similarly 49 patients surfaced in Tehri, 45 in Uttarkashi, 44 in Almora and 38 in Pithoragarh district. In Bageshwar 14 patients were reported while seven patients came up in Rudraprayag, three each in Champawat and Pauri and one in Chamoli.
The state now has 5215 active patients of the disease with Udham Singh Nagar at top position in the table of active patients with 1322 patients. Haridwar is at second spot with 1178 active cases while Dehradun is in third position with 1040 active cases. Nainital has 708 active patients of Covid-19 while Tehri has 235, Uttarkashi 217, Pauri 122, Almora 81, Chamoli 77, Champawat 63, Pithoragarh 62, Rudraprayag and Bageshwar 55 active patients each of the disease.
