Covid-19: State records highest number of cases in single day

836 persons test positive for virus, 11 patients succumb

Uttarakhand registered the highest number of Covid-19 positive cases in a single day on Wednesday with 836 persons being found positive for the infection. Eleven patients succumbed to the virus on the same day. Earlier, the highest single day tally was 728 cases on August 27.

With the 836 cases reported on Wednesday, the total number of Covid cases in the state has climbed to 21,234 of which 14,437 have recovered. The total number of active cases in the state is currently 6,442 while the total number of deaths has risen to 291. According to the information provided by the Health department, 425 Covid-19 patients were cured on Wednesday while 9,831 samples were found negative for the virus. A total of 3,67,512 samples have been found negative so far while the test results of 15,868 are awaited. The doubling rate in the state during the last seven days stands at 23.47 days. Though the number of positive is climbing persistently, the percentage recovery for Covid-19 patients in the state is 67.99 per cent while 5.46 per cent of the total samples tested have come out positive in the state. Of the persons found positive for the virus on Wednesday, Haridwar district recorded the maximum number with 220 persons followed by Dehradun district with 184 cases. Among the other districts, 112 cases were reported from Udham Singh Nagar, 97 from Nainital, 42 from Tehri, 34 from Almora, 32 each from Rudraprayag and Pauri, 31 from Uttarkashi, 28 from Pithoragarh, 12 from Champawat, seven from Chamoli and five from Bageshwar on Wednesday.

 Currently, there are 238 hotspots/containment zones in the state. These include 12 in Dehradun, 19 in Udham Singh Nagar, nine in Uttarkashi, one in Bageshwar, five in Tehri, 167 in Haridwar and 25 in Nainital.
