Covid-19 continues to climb in U’khand

1015 new patients, five deaths on Thursday

After a record breaking single day spike on Wednesday, the number of Covid-19 patients breached past one thousand mark on Thursday with the state health department reporting 1015 fresh cases of the disease. With this surge, the number of Covid-19 patients in the state climbed to 28226. Five patients of the disease were reported dead on Thursday which increased the death toll to 377 in the state. The health department discharged 521 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery on Thursday. A total of 18783 patients have so far recovered from the disease and the recovery percentage for Covid-19 patients in the state is at 66.55 percent. With spurt in the cases, the infection rate in the state too is climbing steadily and is now at 6.02 percent. The disease is taking 23.85 days to double its numbers.

In All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, three patients of the Covid-19 were reported dead on Thursday. Similarly one patient each was reported dead at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani on the day.

The provisional state capital is continuing to witness a viral storm with the state health department reporting 275 fresh cases of the disease on Thursday. Udham Singh Nagar recorded 248, Haridwar 157, Nainital 118, Pauri 58, Pithoragarh 41, Rudraprayag 30, Almora and Chamoli 24 each, Tehri 21 and Uttarkashi one fresh case of the disease on Thursday.

Out of 521 patients cured on Thursday, 253 are from Udam Singh Nagar, 131 from Tehri, 51 from Nainital, 35 from Pithoragarh, 30 from Pauri, 14 from Chamoli and seven from Champawat.

The state now has 8955 active cases of the disease. Dehradun leads the table of active cases of the disease with 2438 patients.  Haridwar has 1524 active cases and is on second spot while with 1290 active cases Udham Singh Nagar is in third position. Nainital has 1222, Pauri 499, Tehri Garhwal 381, Uttarkashi 327, Almora 306, Champawat 249, Rudraprayag 231, Pithoragarh 218, Chamoli 147 and Bageshwar 123 active cases of the disease.

The authorities have set up 346 containment zones in different parts of the state to prevent spread of the disease. Haridwar has 260 such zones while Udham Singh Nagar 24, Dehradun 23, Udham Singh Nagar 11, Pauri and Champawat nine each, Uttarkashi seven and Tehri six such zones. Nainital and Rudraprayag have four containment zones each.
