The Congress party workers and leaders of Uttarakhand organised blood donation camps on the occasion of 50th birthday of former President of Congress party Rahul Gandhi on Friday. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic and recent violent skirmish between Indian and Chinese troops on the Indo- China border which resulted in the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers, the Congressmen celebrated the day in a simple manner. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) organised a blood donation camp at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on the day. The PCC president Pritam Singh who was present in the camp said the whole country is shocked by the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers at Galwan valley in Ladakh. He expressed grief on the deaths and said that the Congressmen are with the families of the martyrs. The Congress workers and leaders and observed a two minute silence to pay homage to the martyrs.
The Vice President of the state unit of Congress party Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the PCC president visited Bal Vanita Ashram located at Tilak road and distributed food and fruits to the inmates.
The scheduled caste (SC) cell of the Congress party also organised a blood donation at Rajiv Gandhi community centre. The student wing of the Congress party, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) organised blood donation camps in all the districts. The state president of NSUI, Mohan Bhandari said that 200 units of blood were collected in the camps.
