The proposed visit of the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, has galvanised the state unit of Congress party. A meeting presided over by the Pradesh Congress Committee ( PCC) president Pritam Singh was organised in the Congress Bhawan, the head office of state unit of party on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition in state assembly Indira Hridayesh, deputy leader of Congress in assembly Karan Mahra, MLAs Adesh Chauhan, Manoj Rawat, former ministers Dinesh Agarwal, Mantri Prasad Naithani and district presidents of the party. In the meeting the focus was to ensure a big gathering during the rally of Rahul Gandhi at Parade Ground on March 16. It is learnt that the district presidents and others were asked to ensure that at least one party worker from every booth of the state is there to participate in the rally. There are more than 12,000 polling booths in the state.
The major stress would however would be on the leaders of Dehradun, Haridwar and Tehri district to bring crowd to the rally. A senior congress leader later confided that the party estimates that more than 25,000 people would come to attend the rally of Congress president.
Later talking to the media persons, the PCC president, Pritam Singh claimed that all congressmen are very enthusiastic about the visit of Rahul Gandhi and the rally at parade ground on March 16 would be a historic one.
The Leader of Opposition in assembly Indira Hridayesh said that the people are fed up with anti people policies of the state and union government and they are raring for a change. She added that the people are looking at congress party as an alternative so it is the responsibility of the party to fulfill their wishes.
Taking a swipe at Trivendra Singh Rawat government for downgrading of Dehradun on scale of sanitation, she said that the state government is only content in showing a clean Dehradun in advertisements.
