Cong accuses BJP leaders for acting irresponsibly
Politics heated up in the aftermath of the BJP president becoming Covid-19 positive. Taking a pot shot at state BJP, the vice president of Uttarakhand Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana said that he wishes Bhagat a speedy recovery from the disease. He however questioned the presence of hundreds of people in the house warming ceremony of Bansi Dhar Bhagat. He alleged that the BJP leaders are behaving irresponsibly in dealing with the disease and said that it appears that they are under the notion that they are resistant to the disease. Dhasmana also attacked the state administration for adopting separate standards for dealing with the leaders of BJP and opposition. He said that administration is slapping cases on the Congress leaders for not following social distancing norms during programmes and looking the other way when similar and more blatant offences are committed by the BJP leaders.
While Dhasmana was aggressive in his attack on BJP, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh was more guarded in his approach. Responding to the questions of media persons, he merely said that he wishes a speedy recovery to Bansidhar Bhagat from Covid-19. He said that the politicians lead a social life and at times the norms of social distancing are not followed properly. He added that those in public life cannot engage in pick and choose policy for meeting with the public. When prodded by the media persons to comment on the ceremony held at the new official residence of Bhagat, the PCC president merely said that he doesn’t want to make political comments on the subject.
The spokesperson of Uttarakhand BJP, Devendra Bhasin said that the Uttarakhand Congress should look into itself before commenting on the issue. He said that it is really unfortunate that some Congress leaders are engaging in petty politics on the subject. Bhasin reminded Congress that many of its leaders were in quarantine and they organised programmes like Bullock cart march which affected anti Covid activities.
