The Congress in Uttarakhand is hoping that its national president and star campaigner Rahul Gandhi will galvanise support for the party by addressing public rallies in the state today. Haridwar is one of the locations where he will address a public gathering. While the administration is focusing on the security arrangements, the party workers are broadcasting news of the arrival of their national president through auto rickshaws and door to door campaigning by party candidate from Haridwar, Ambrish Kumar. The area chosen earlier for Rahul Gandhi’s rally was Piran Kaliyar in Roorkee but on account of high tension line running over the ground, permission was not given by the authorities. So Pantdweep in Haridwar is all set for the rally.
The Congress candidate from Haridwar, Ambrish Kumar is campaigning in all areas of the district, especially in Jwalapur and Ranipur areas where he is said to have a base of supporters.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Kumar said, “My dream has come true, the party high command has placed confidence in me and I am fighting the war of ‘Swabhiman’ being connected to the holy city for the past many decades. I am an enthusiastic student of Pundit Nehru and I remain firm in my resolve in carrying his legacy forward as a follower. If elected as the MP of Haridwar, I shall change the politics of Uttarakhand by educating people on what was Nehru’s dream for India, how far we have proceeded and what remains to be done.”
The Congress state vice president Sanjay Paliwal said that the stage for Rahul Gandhi’s address will be made at the back of Jairam Ashram.
