Monday, 19 February 2018 | PNS | Dehradun-
Following a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s mobile phone application, a village in Chamoli district will now finally be getting electricity supply about seven decades after the nation gained Independence.
According to information provided by government sources, Ratgaon is a remote village located in the Tharali block of Chamoli district. For nearly seven decades after the nation gained Independece, this village has remained without electricity connection. Following a complaint received on the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s official mobile app regarding this issue, the chief minister’s office swung into action and issued instructions to the senior officials concerned of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL). The officials fo the UPCL informed the chief minister’s office that tenders have been invited for the execution of this task. After the tenders are opened, the task of facilitating electrification is expected to be allocated by February 28, the corporation officials informed.
As a result, the village will be provided with electricity supply by June this year if things go as planned. The UPCL has started work to facilitate electrification of the village under the central-funded Deen Dayal Gram Jyoti Vidyutikaran Yojana.
It should be mentioned here that Ratgaon village resident Pradeep Singh Farswan had on February 7, lodged a complaint through the chief minister’s mobile app regarding the problems being faced in the village. He had stated in the complaint that even seven decades after the nation gained Independence, about 400 families living in the remote Ratgaon village in Tharali block of Chamoli district were still leading a life without access to electricity supply. He further stated that the demand for electrification of the village had been raised repeatedly with the authorities both before creation of Uttarakhand and after State formation. However, with the required action not being taken, hundreds of people living in the village have continued to lead lives bereft of electricity connection. Taking serious cognisance of the complaint, the CM office directed UPCL officials to undertake work on priority to ensure electricity connection to the Ratgaon village as soon as possible.
