The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed happiness on the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give recognition to Uttarakhand. Terming it in the interest of the state, the CM said that apart from promoting cricket, the decision would help in providing better opportunities to players of the state. Rawat said that players and sports lovers were waiting for the day for long and now the cricketing talent of Uttarakhand would get a chance to excel. He added that with BCCI giving recognition to Uttarakhand, the cricketers of the state would now not have to migrate to other states.
On Tuesday, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) of BCCI gave permanent recognition to the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) for administration of cricket in the state. The COA of BCCI in a meeting found the claim of CAU on its role in development of local cricket and availability of sporting infrastructure strong enough to be granted recognition.
It is worth mentioning here that due to bickering between three associations, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Cricket Association and Uttaranchal Cricket Association the state cricket was not getting the all important recognition of the BCCI from last 18 years. On the initiative taken by state government, two major associations merged last year which paved the way for the recognition from the BCCI.
Expressing happiness on the development, the president of the CAU, Hira Singh Bisht said that the young cricketers of the state would now get more opportunities. Later on Wednesday, Bisht along with other office bearers of the association met the CM and thanked him for the state government’s efforts.
