Reservation for general category
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for getting the approval of the Union Cabinet for 10 percent reservation in Government jobs for economically weaker persons belonging to upper castes. The Chief Minister said that for a long time, the demand for reservations on economic basis was being demanded by economically backward upper caste people across the country.
This step of the Central Government will benefit the economically weaker sections of the society. Describing the decision as a historic step by the Central Government, Rawat said it is an important step in the direction of realising the concept of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”. He further said that this will benefit the economically backward people of Uttarakhand and the State’s youth will get better opportunities to get into Government service.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party State president Ajay Bhatt also welcomed the decision of the Union Cabinet, terming it a historic step taken to facilitate inclusive development.
He said, “Debate had been going on in the country for decades regarding reservation for poor persons from upper castes but no one had the courage showed the courage to take a decision in this regard. However, Modi has done this and that too without affecting the rights of anyone else. Now economically weaker upper caste persons will get 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education while scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and other backward classes will continue to receive the reservation already provided to them. The upper caste poor were lagging behind in the developmental journey of the nation but now they will get better opportunities to progress,” said Bhatt.
Terming this decision as historic, the BJP Uttarakhand unit has stated that this decision shows Modi’s policy of considering the welfare of all and working towards facilitating the same.
