The infighting between two legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Haridwar district might create problems for the party. The supporters of both the legislators are at loggerheads. A couple of times, war of words has ensued between the two and use of unconstitutional language quite often in their public meetings.
A fortnight ago, verbal war began between the legislator from Khanpur, Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ and legislator from Jhabreda, Deshraj Karnwal. Champion targeted the sitting MP from Haridwar, Ramesh Pokhariyal ‘Nishank’ and Deshraj Karnwal opposed this with his full might. Champion had projected his wife Devyani Singh as a contender for the party ticket from Haridwar parliamentary constituency. Following this, a war of words began between the two. On March 21 in a public rally in Roorkee, both the legislators used unconstitutional language while criticising each other. Whenever the supporters of both the legislators confront each other in some public function, they start criticising each other and raising slogans against each other. At the time of election, this is creating trouble for the party members in this area.
Since Haridwar Lok Sabha seat is also a matter of prestige for the Bharatiya Janata party, the legislators’ infighting might create trouble for the party say the party insiders. However the party leaders are keeping mum over the issue.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the BJP district president Jaipal Singh Chauhan said, “The party is aware of the talks between the two legislators. Both the legislators have been asked to keep their supporters under control. It is election time and the whole organisation is mobilising its resources. Whatever the legislator is saying goes against the party discipline. We shall be raising this matter with the party high command.”
Meanwhile, some of BJP workers who were miffed at the party in the past have made a comeback to the party. During election of Shivalik Nagar municipal council, Upendra Sharma from Ranipur Mandal who did not get ticket had worked against the BJP contestant Rajeev Sharma. In the election rally by state CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and Nishank recently, Upendra Sharma rejoined the party.
