The open air gym started eliciting positive response many days before it was inaugurated. As Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the gym on Monday, more and more youngsters came forward to express their views about the MCD’s project.
“This kind of initiative was required here as there are very few parks in Dehradun. I am sure I will be using the gym facility every day,” said college student Ramandeep Singh.
“The good part is that the trainers will be appointed to help the people. At times we do exercises wrongly and hurt ourselves so having a trainer here would be good,” he added.
“Building a gym in the park is a decent move but I am not sure if people will use it. Usually people get excited to see all this for a day or two after that these machines just fill spaces,” said Manisha, who works at a cosmetics store.
“The Government does one thing and shows it as if something huge has been achieved. In other cities gyms like these are in every other park here we don’t even have parks,” said Samriddhi, a student.
“It’s sad how Dehradun is turning into a concrete jungle day by day. The government is just focusing on development which is not at all sustainable. It seems they are trying to convert a small city into a metropolitan which is detrimental,” she added.
“This gym will help people especially the elderly a lot as the machines are built according to their needs,” said student Karan.
“Usually old people just come here to spend some time chit chatting, the gym will help them put their minds into something better than just talking,” he added.
