In a review meeting held by the Railway senior superintendent of police, the officer directed the railway police force to launch intense checking drive in trains coming to Haridwar. The Railway police SSP Roshan Lal Sharma directed the railway police to work in tandem with the local police. Constable Qurban Ali deployed in GRP Haridwar was rewarded for his timely action in arresting a man posing as an IPS officer from railway station. For his action, Ali was adjudged the policeman of the month.
With about a week left for polling in the Lok Sabha elections, the police have stepped up their activities. The Railway SSP Roshan Lal Sharma said that the police must conduct intense checking drive in trains. He directed them to make necessary security arrangements at railway platforms, parking areas and ensure security of passengers.
The SSP directed the personnel to check the incidents of robbery, nab the conmen and pick pockets who are often active especially when long distance trains halt for few minutes at the railway station.
Additional SP Narendra Singh Bhandari, and posts in-charge were also present in the review meeting.
Meanwhile, for ensuring the conduct of free and fair polls, paramilitary force personnel took out a flag march in villages of Shyampur, Kangri, Gaziwali and other neighbouring areas. The authorities appealed to the common people to maintain peaceful atmosphere during the polls.
