Chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, Sowjanya took a meeting of the representatives of different political parties on Tuesday and held discussion on the strict implementation of the model code of conduct now in force in the state following the announcement of the general election schedule.
Notably, elections in five parliamentary constituencies of Uttarakhand would be held on April 11.
In the meeting, the CEO said that the model code of conduct would be enforced strictly till the end of the election process. She further said that the use of loud hailers would be banned from 10 pm to 6 am. Sowjanya said that every contestant would have to submit an affidavit at the time of submitting nomination papers.
She informed that all types of banners, posters, flags, hoardings, wall paintings and cut outs have been removed from the government buildings.
The CEO added that all kinds of unauthorised election campaign materials have to be removed from the private properties within 72 hours of the declaration of election process.
She further stressed that the use of the government vehicles by any political party or candidate would be strictly prohibited. Teams have been constituted which would keep an eye on the expenditure done by the candidates.
She said that every candidate would have to open a new bank account for election -related expenses.
It is worth mentioning here that a candidate can spend an amount up to Rs 70 lakh in Lok Sabha election.
The meeting was attended among others by the additional CEO V Shanmugam and joint CEO Pratap Shah besides the representatives of different political parties.
