Uttarakhand Kranti Dal accused the State government of staging a farcical celebratory week on the occasion of state’s foundation day. UKD’s Mahanagar head Sunil Dhyani said that celebrities from outside the state had been invited and such a big programme was organised using the taxpayers’ money while the general public is still waiting for a permanent state capital.
Dhyani said, “Almost 19 years have been completed since the foundation of state was laid but even now the statehood activists are waiting for their demands to be met. Both BJP and Congress have played with the feelings of Uttarakhand natives. The whole celebratory week would have meant something only if the government announces Gairsain as permanent capital of Uttarakhand.”
He further said, “BJP governments in the state and at the Centre are indulging in vote bank politics. Here in Uttarakhand, when the court ordered illegal slums to be cleared, the government with the support of Congress party brought an ordinance to defer this. State Holiday was declared on Chhath Puja but no holiday or official observance was seen on the native festival of Igas.”
It is pertinent to mention here that UKD is planning to celebrate the state’s foundation day on Saturday in Gairsain. They said that it is for reminding people about the demands that have not been met yet, for the development of Uttarakhand’s population and mountainous regions.
