Many in the state unit of BJP are finding it hard to hide their glee on sudden fall from grace of a powerful leader, a former Pracharak foisted over them from above, after a sensational charge of sexual harassment by a party worker. This fellow known for his organizational skills was so overbearing in his dealings with those in the government and promoting his aficionados within the organization with a pincer-like approach that he was increasingly being loathed. He is said to have handed over a long list to the chief minister for appointments in the various positions which supposedly was one reason why the government failed to finalize the appointments for which the saffron foot soldiers are anxiously waiting for long. His unexpected exit is being seen as a relief for many in the saffron party and government.
The unending stream of VVIPs in Uttarakhand is keeping the government here on a perpetual reception mode. The aesthetic, spiritual and religious appeal of the small Himalayan state attracts who’s who of the country but these visits without doubt adversely affect the governance and drain the poor state economically. Every time a VVIP plans to visit one or all of the sacred Char Dhams or any remote location, the state government has to spend a fortune to make arrangements which are in sync with the protocol associated. The just-concluded visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kedarnath on day of Diwali also kept the state administration on tenterhooks with those deployed on PM duty doing it with a grudge that their festival has got ruined. With such visits bound to increase in future, the state government is well advised to create a separate department for VVIP movements for which the union government should allocate special budget to help the small state with meagre resources.
Embroiled in events like arrest of a TV news channel owner for his alleged attempt to sting the government and accusation of sexual abuse on one of its apex leaders of organisation, the state leadership of BJP was caught off- guard during the recent by-election held for the post of Chamoli district Panchayat president when its nominee was forced to bite the dust by a Congress-supported candidate. It is apparent that differences among the local BJP leaders led to the debacle which has left the saffron outfit red-faced. The unexpected election result is being seen as a wake-up call for the BJP leadership to put its house in order and take the charge of a rejuvenated Congress by the horns just ahead of the crucial elections of Urban Local Bodies. read more posts…
