BJP revokes Champion’s expulsion after 13 months, Karnwal also forgiven
MLA expelled for six years after video showing him dancing with guns taken back into party for good conduct
The BJP State unit on Monday re-inducted
the controversial Khanpur MLA Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ and welcomed him back in the party following a decision taken by the party’s state core committee. Champion had been expelled for six years last year after a video showing him purportedly in an inebriated state, dancing while brandishing firearms went viral.
Addressing the media at his residence here on Monday, the BJP State president Banshidhar Bhagat said that the core committee had decided to revoke Champion’s expulsion based on good conduct in the period since his suspension. Similarly, Jhabreda MLA Deshraj Karnwal was also forgiven- he had been issued a notice for violating party discipline. Both the MLAs apologised in writing to the party and also explained their stand to the party leadership recently.
Bhagat said, “For some time the party had been considering the Khanpur MLA’s wish to return to the party and the Jhabreda MLA’s application in response to the notice served to him for indiscipline. Both the MLAs have expressed regret in writing, apologised and assured that they will follow the party discipline and not repeat the errors. The party core committee decided to take Champion back and forgive Karnwal. In the year since Champion’s expulsion, there has been a positive change in his temperament. I am happy and hopeful that both the MLAs will not repeat their past mistakes in the future, as they have promised.”
Addressing the media, Champion said, “I apologise to the people of Uttarakhand with folded hands for my past mistake. This Devbhoomi is like my mother and a mother does forgive her child, which is why I again apologise to the people of Uttarakhand and assure that I will not repeat my earlier mistake.”
